By the time that you are reading this, it will be just a few days until the May Annual Meeting when we will hold our elections including the office of president. Since I am not running for a third term, this is my last “Message” as president. I have mixed feelings as it has been a good two year experience with many rewarding moments, one in which I have seen much change in the club as it grows and matures during the 12 years since formation. I think change, although sometimes seemingly hard, is really a good thing for an organization, keeps it fresh and flexible allowing it to meet the desires of the new and expanding membership. I’ll still have my hand in as I will be sitting on the BoG as a past president. I think this role is to help me step down gradually, but also to be there to assist the new president in assuming the responsibilities of the office.
I have my own way of stepping down; Mary and I are leaving for our own driving tour of Scotland early Monday morning following the annual meeting. Probably not too many overseas calls to ask for pointers on how to do what’s next! Or at least that is what I am hoping. I call it a real get away! A clean break! …We have toured Ireland where Mary has background, so this year we will do Scotland as I have some Scot in my back ground. Castles, kilts, bag pipes and history all will be on our agenda for a much anticipated vacation.
Just an additional word or two about the annual meeting at the West Wareham Elk’s Lodge on May 5th; I hope we have a good turnout for the meeting. If this early warm spring continues, it should be a great drive in our LBCs. There is a large sized parking lot where we can have a nice showing of cars. We will not only hold the elections, but we will award some “Toolships” to the recipients, vote on some other business issues and make some additional acknowledgements during the meeting. So I encourage everyone to plan on attending your club’s annual meeting.
The Tech Session at Charlie Bohm’s house, the Safety Fast at Paul Hinchcliffe’s garage as well as the Brewster in Bloom parade on Sunday April 29th will all be behind us as April ends, but there are plenty more events ahead. The “A” Team event is up next following the Annual Meeting, so Just a reminder that you can check on all events right on the homepage under the calendar listing, so please check there often as to not miss out on what is happening in your club.
It has been a good run for me these past two years and I, along with all of you, will be looking to support the new president in the year ahead.
